Description
Dorothy Gale (Garland) plans to run away from her unhappy Kansas farm when she is whisked away in a swirling tornado with her dog Toto and arrives in the fantasy-land of Oz. Dorothy's entrance into the land of Oz remains one of screen history's most memorable moments as the black and white scene gives way to glowing colour photography. Munchkinland is a dream-come true world of enchanted forests, dancing scarecrows, and singing lions. Glinda, the Good Witch of the North tells her to find the Wizard of Oz who can bring her home - to get there she must follow the famous yellow brick road. On the journey she meets the scarecrow, the tin man and the lion (emblematic of the lessons of wisdom, love, devotion and bravery). The Wicked Witch of the West wants Dorothy's red shoes, which she was given as a reward for saving the Munchkins. At the end of the day Dorothy realizes that happiness was in her own back-yard all the time.
